BEAUTY: BACK TO BASICS

basics_department_beauty

The key to achieving flawless makeup is part application but more importantly, it counts to use the right products for your skin. Just as our skin changes with age so too does our makeup. For years you may have been using the same products not realising they no longer work for you, or perhaps you never had the right products to begin with. Either way it’s important you assess your makeup collection regularly. Keeping these essential base products up to date will guarantee a perfect transeasonal makeup application every day.

Primer

A hydrating primer is best for dry skin types, while an oil-free shine-reducing primer will work best for oily skin. Colour-correcting primer can solve a host of different skin conditions, such as green for redness and purple for dullness.

Foundation

Matte vs Satin vs Dewy – it’s the biggest battle in selecting your foundation. Satin is the most universally flattering finish but matte can work best for oily skin, while a youthful healthy glow can be achieved with a dewy finish.

Brows

Brow hairs naturally are not one block shade, they are a mix of lighter and darker hairs, so it’s important to reflect that variant when filling them in. Pencils are an easy choice for quick and easy application, while pomade or gels give an extra bold finish. The most natural looking option is a powder applied with a fine, angled brush.

Mascara

Whether you are wearing false lashes, extensions or simply looking to enhance your natural lashes, you need to start with a very good base mascara. Separating and lengthening formulas are the most flattering look to open up your eyes.

Lip Balm

It’s one of the most underrated beauty products of all but a good lip balm will guarantee a smooth and flawless pout year-round. The balm should include a humectant that is offset with an occlusive ingredient, such as shea butter or beeswax.
